한반도의 역사·정치·문화에 관심이 많은 외국인 친구가
7월 27일, 6.25전쟁의 정전협정을 기념하여 쓴 글을 동의를 얻어 소개하고자 한다.
<번 역 문>
1953년 한국전쟁이 종전된 엄숙한 날을 기념하면서. 잃어버린 무수한 생명들, 사랑하는 사람들과의 이별, 정신적인 피해를 기억하자. 한국 뿐 아니라 전 세계 미래의 지도자들은 한국전쟁으로부터 교훈을 얻어야 한다. 이런 규모의 파괴는 다시는 일어나서는 안된다. 한 나라는 분열되어서는 안 된다. 아이들은 어린시절 놀이를 즐기고 안정된 교육을 받으면서 건강한 환경에서 자라야 한다. 수많은 아이들이 어린시절을 잃어버린 것을 보면 슬프다. 우리는 강해야 하고 항상 준비되어 있어야 한다. 싱가포르에는 "Once beaten twice shy"라는 말이 있다. 그것은 실수는 한번으로도 충분하다는 뜻이다.

As we observe the solemn occasion of the end of the Korean War in 1953. Let us remember the countless lives that were lost, separation from loved ones, and the psychological damage. Future leaders not only in Korea but throughout the world should take a lesson from the Korean War. Such scale of damage should never happen again. A country should never be divided trough foreign influences. Children should grow up in a healthy environment by enjoying their childhood trough playing and having a stable education. It’s sad to see countless children’s childhood are lost. We should remain strong and vigilant and ever ready. There’s a saying in Singapore “once beaten twice shy” loosely mean one mistake is enough. - A.Q. Matthew -
