1 killed in Gwangju motel fire, death toll expected to rise
One person was killed and 32 others injured in an early morning fire at a motel in Gwangju, Sunday.
Fire authorities said the fire, which broke out at 5:45 a.m. at the motel in the northern part of the city, was extinguished within 22 minutes at 6:07 a.m.
The death toll could rise, as 14 of the 32 injured sustained serious harm, including smoke inhalation and burns, according to authorities. The majority of 32 rooms of the five-story accommodation were occupied at the time of the fire.
Police arrested a man, 39, identified only by the surname Kim, on suspicions of arson.
According to Gwangju Bukbu Police Station, Kim told police he had checked in by himself, set the bedding on fire with suicidal intent and left the room.
A woman jumped from the fourth floor, landing on a canopy roof over the garage and avoiding serious injuries.
The fire originated in a room on the third floor.
In total, 217 fire officials and some 48 fire engines and other equipment were mobilized in firefighting efforts.

소방 당국은 도시 북부의 모텔에서 오전 5시 45 분에 발생한 화재가 오전 6시 7 분에 22 분 안에 소멸되었다고 밝혔다.

경찰은 방화 혐의로 김씨 만 식별 한 39 세의 남자를 체포했다.
광주 북부 경찰서에 따르면 김 씨는 경찰이 스스로 체크인했고 자살 의도로 불을 지르며 방을 나갔다고 말했다.
한 여성이 4 층에서 뛰어 내려 차고 위의 캐노피 지붕에 착륙하여 심각한 부상을 피했습니다.
화재는 3 층의 방에서 시작되었습니다.
총 217 명의 소방관과 48 명의 소방차 및 기타 장비가 소방 활동에 동원되었습니다.
