자반고등어
철물점 옆 생선가게 아줌마
팔다 남은 자반고등어 세 손
신문지에 둘둘 말아 가져왔네.
붉은 불꽃 이는 몽실몽실한 숯불에
지글지글 구워 한 점 떼어 먹으니
향기로운 소금 냄새 바다 냄새
입속을 돌아 내장 가득 퍼지네
몸 안에 사는 육십조 개 세포들
신나는 생명 잔치 먹방 잔치 열렸네.
세포에 기대 사는 천조 개 세균도
즐거운 기생 잔치 공생 잔치 열렸네.
외로운 가슴에 고등어 날아오르고
푸른 바다 물결 아득아득 밀려오는데
생선 싼 종이에 생선 냄새 향기로워
고등어꽃 활짝 피운 생선가게 아줌마
사람은 외로움을 갖고 있기에 사람이고
고등어는 냄새를 갖고 있기에 고등어네.
향기로운 냄새를 짊어진 지구의 생명들
뱃속으로 들어가 윤회하는 구원의 무기라네.
“사람 몸에 사람 냄새나고 고등어 몸에 고등어 냄새나네”
Next to the hardware store,
the fishmonger’s wife
wrapped three salted mackerels
in old newspaper.
Over glowing embers,
the fish sizzled and charred—
a taste, a piece stolen.
Salt and sea scent filled the air,
dancing inside my mouth.
Sixty trillion cells within me
joined a lively feast of life.
A trillion microbes thrived too,
a joyful dance of symbiosis.
Mackerel soared to my lonely heart,
waves of blue sea rolled distant and vast.
The fishy scent in paper wrapped
bloomed like a flower from the fishmonger’s hands.
Humans hold loneliness,
mackerel carries its scent.
All life on Earth,
bearing fragrant essences,
circulates in the endless cycle of salvation.
“Human bodies smell like humans,
mackerel bodies smell like mackerel.”
