길고양이에게 길을 묻다
한낮의 암살자 같은 태양이
바늘처럼 내리꽂히는 거리를
용감하고 위엄있는 발걸음으로
사뿐사뿐 걸어가는 길고양이
오직 한결같이 고귀하고
오직 세밀하게 현명한데
성질 사나운 빨간벽돌집 남자
막대기 마구 휘두르며 내쫓네.
동물에 광적으로 집착하는 사람은
자연의 진정한 제자가 될 수 없는 법
위험한 묘생의 토대 위에 쌓아 올린
달콤살벌한 모험가의 유토피아에서
한껏 웅크리고 있는 사려 깊은 길고양이
더 견고하고 고독해서 사랑스럽네!
견뎌야 할 위험이 많을수록 편안한 법이지.
가는 곳마다 밑바닥이 깊어 볼 수 없기에
오로지 단순하고 명쾌하게 즐길 뿐이라네
힘들어 의지하는 순간 노예가 되는 건 뻔한 일
짊어진 짐이 무겁다면 오히려 짐을 늘리리라.
자신만의 도덕으로 당당하게 살아가는 길고양이
가치 없는 험담에 상처받지 않는 상냥한 길고양이
고귀함 따위의 미끼는 결코 물지 않는다네.
인간을 오해하지 않기 위해 더 고독해지며
위풍당당 위엄있는 자유로운 영혼의 소유자
“길 위에서 길을 가는 명랑한 길고양이”

a graceful stance.
The greater the danger,
the deeper the calm.

joy is simple and clear.
To lean is to be owned.
To carry more is to be free.
With its own quiet morals,
this gentle cat fears no slander.
It will never bite the bait of nobility.
Growing lonelier to not misjudge mankind,
it walks proud—
a free and dignified soul,
a merry stray
on the path of its own making.
